A few months ago, friends of ROWAN gave toward a bus for our community. Little did we know that it would become exponentially more important than we thought.
Without a bus, we would have no way to care for and distribute food to the hundreds of people and families who are now expected to quarantine in their huts until the Coronovirus subsides. We have no interest in adding to the panic, chaos, and fear surrounding COVID-19, but it would be irresponsible if we didn't advocate for some of the most vulnerable people on the planet during this outbreak. Many widows make a living and provide for their children by selling products they make and food they grow at markets. Now, they have no way to create any income nor the ability to acquire food.
Those of you who gave toward the bus prepared us to respond effectively during this time. THANK YOU.
Please read these words from ROWAN Co-Founder Kelsey Hargadine:
"The Coronavirus and its implications are now hitting Uganda hard in addition to widespread violence. As the situation escalates, food prices are skyrocketing - within a day of the first reported case, food prices DOUBLED. Therefore, we are raising funds for food in order to keep ROWAN families in their homes so that they aren't exposed to the virus. ROWAN Staff Members will distribute food and supplies while social distancing using OUR NEW BUS! God knew we'd need it.
The biggest thing in Uganda, just like here, is that people are scared and fearful...and we want to show them tangible hope in times of crisis."
